Jay Reilly “shoot your kids” workshop

I know that it has been quite a while since I have posted on here. Rather than make excuses, I am just going to start posting again. I decided I would work backwards and start with some photos from the workshop I attended this past weekend and then I’ll work on adding the dozen shoots from the past few months.

I spent last weekend in San Diego attending  Jay Reilly’s workshop: “shoot your kids”. I got to get away with some great photographer friends and learn from someone who is really great at what he does.  What makes Jay great is not just that his studio is tucked away in this great alley that has different colored building or that he minutes from a perfect beach and surrounded by beautiful people. What makes Jay great at what he does is that he has a vision for the types of images he wants to produce and just goes out there and does it. He clearly has a gift for what he does and that shows in all of the photos he takes. I can only hope to keep on practicing and to one day produce images as cool and real as his.

As you can see by this first picture of Jay in action, he does not just tell the kids what he wants them to do..he shows them as well!

Our first shoot of the day was with some kids who also happen to be models. These beautiful girls make taking pictures way to easy.

I wanted to take this one home with me, not just so I could dress her up and take pictures, but because she was also just adorable. She would go from a great genuine smile to her serious face to the most contagious little giggle.

Our next shoot was with the skating family. Being a bit of a neurotic mom, I had to try really hard to take pictures rather than worry about a 3 year old on a skateboard!

For our last shoot, I concentrated on getting pictures of this very handsome young boy who claims he is not a model. Are you kidding, look at that face.
