  • See that picture over there, that's me. I'm the one in the yellow scarf. I have been married for 10 years and have 3 kids, those are the kids in the picture. I thought about using stand-ins since my kids are pretty much over the camera, but decided to let them and their funny little expressions be part of our family picture.

Like most people who love taking pictures, I am not so fond of being on the other side of the camera. If I was going to have a stand in for me, it would be Rachel McAdams. That's who would play me in the very interesting movie about my life. When I recently told my husband that, he was quick to point out that I look nothing like her. Whatever..it's my movie. In the movie of my life, I would also have perfectly behaved kids, would live in a house that looks like all the things I pin on pinterest and I would make perfect healthy meals that everyone loves. I would also have a camera within arms reach most of the time.

It would be so cliche to say that my interest in photography developed after I had my children, but, it is true. I LOVE capturing every perfect and not so perfect moment in my kids lives as much as I love capturing those moments for my friends and clients.

This blog started as a photography blog, which unfortunately made me stop writing on my mama blog. Even though I had many things I wanted to talk and have talked about things having nothing to do with photography, I finally decided that I just needed to make this a blog about everything, which is why I got rid of my photography logo and decided to call it mish mash mama.

I'm still doing photo shoots and will hopefully eventually get to posting some of the 30 sessions I did over the holiday season. Please 99,111,110,116,97,99,116,32,109,101em tcatnoc if you want me to capture you and your special family.

Many thanks to Gail Pomare for braving an afternoon with my family to get some photos that I will always treasure.

a fresh start..

I know, what a cliche title for a blog post in January. Even worse, January has already passed me by and we are already into February. Where does the time go. Once again, I have a million things I could blog about and all those ideas float around in my head, just never making it here.  Add that to trying to update my blog a little before I post anything and nothing will ever happen. So here you go..I am posting even though my blog and I are an ongoing work in progress. I am playing with new ways of posting my photos and this is what I am going with for today.

I have about two dozen shoots that never got blogged and I am going to be ok with that. Instead of blogging all of them, I am going to pick a few photos from some of those sessions to share. To start with, I wanted to share some of my favorite sibling shots. Now, I am sure there is a very good reason that I love a nice sibling shot, and it probably has nothing to do with the fact that I can’t get a good one of my own kids. I have hundreds of photos like the one below. I know I should just embrace the reality of my life and all 3 of them in the same place looking at the camera is just too much to ask, right?

And then you have beauties like this. It was not easy always easy to keep the little one in place, but between mom and I, we did it and I could not have been more pleased with what I wa able to capture.

How I dream about getting a shot like this of mine. If I had one, I would hang it very large in my house.

Ahh…brotherly love. Mom loved this photo since she said it really showed what they are like together. I also got some great ones of them alone that truly show their personality, that I will have to share in another post.

This next one was a very fun shoot with five kids dressed perfect thanks to a very stylish mom. Mom said that these 2 really do have a very loving relationship and I am glad I was able to capture that for her.

Lastly..our little kung fu holiday boy..this photo just makes me happy.

Linh - Oh I love the new format of posting your pictures, makes the pictures even more gorgeous! I think I’m even worst than you, I haven’t posted on my blog in months!

Hope you have a Kung Fu Holiday!

jake3This was the last picture taken on my last shoot of the year, and it makes me giggle every time I look at it! Little J was a ham and I am pretty sure I captured his BIG personality in our  photo shoot. I have so many fun ones to share, and will hopefully get to that pretty soon as well as the dozen other shoots that I have not shared on here yet. I could make it my new years resolution to update my blog every day in January with all the shoots I never got in here, but that is  A LOT of pressure to add to the eating better, exercise, be a better mom, etc. I’ll see what I can do!

What a great year 2009 has been for my little photography business, I can’t wait to see what 2010 brings! Thanks to all the wonderful families I got an opportunity to capture, I can’t wait to do it again next year.

Hope you and the family have a very Merry Christmas!!

One sweet family

What more could you say about this family, other than how sweet they are. I mean, how could they not be sweet, they own Pacific Cookie Company. I don’t have to say much more about those cookies. Anyone who lives in the area and walks by their downtown location already knows how great they are. It’s like a magnet for my husband, he can’t walk by without being drawn in to buy a cookie or two or a dozen.

I contacted Cara (mom of the 2 beautiful little girls) last year to see if Pacific Cookie Company would be interested in partnering with me for a bake sale to benefit cookies for kids cancer. Cookies for kids cancer encourages people to hold local bake sales to raise money to directly support research at Comprehensive Cancer Centers across the country. We met, discussed a few ideas, and like me, Cara wanted to do more. I was able to put Cara in contact with the amazing mom who started the organization and in the end, Pacific Cookie Company ended up being the ones to provide the cookies when someone orders online. When Cara and I initially spoke, we discussed holding a bake sale. This past September, with the help of some other local moms, we were able to make it happen. Pacific cookie company generously donated 500 cookies and through two bake sales at Vine hill School, we were able to raise $1500. I was so honored to be able to do a photo shoot for this amazing family as a little way of saying thank you.

Linh - Wow Michelle! Such beautiful sweet images, I’m sure the family will fall in love with them. Super Job!

Fun Loving, Competitive and Dramatic

Before I did this shoot, I sent out a questionnaire to Bonnie to learn a little more about her family. Fun loving, competitive and dramatic were the 3 words she used to describe her beautiful daughters. I not only LOVE that in the short time that I spent with them, it was clear to me how accurate those words were, but also that Bonnie is so in tune to her girls and is able to describe them so well. Bonnie described herself as relaxed, which I clearly saw when “competitive” child climbed very high up a tree and it did not seem scare Bonnie at all. Bonnie & Paul, your girls are beautiful and I can only imagine what life is going to be like on your house in a few years! It was such a pleasure to meet you and I hope that you love the photographs.3girls

“R” Family, party of 6 l Scotts Valley Family Photographer

Where do I start with this family? We have been planning this shoot for about a year and was so excited when we finally were able to make it happen. I knew this would be a fun shoot, because what else could it be with 4 crazy kids and a very large dog?! As an added bonus, Brian is into photography so I new he would be very patient as we played. As you will see from many of the photos of Brian, he seems to know how to work the camera. That must have something to do with his acting, or was it singing and dancing past. And Marnie..well she is just beautiful, you put them together and look at what you get.

And baby makes 6.girls

A calm and peaceful Brian, Marnie and Baby R while chaos surrounds us.

withr

I got plenty of perfectly posed photos that will make grandma happy, but my favorites are usually the ones that happen in between and show what life is really like.

family1In addition to these photos, they played in the leaves, tickled each other on the couch, played some some Beatles rock band on the Wii and piled on a very large dog named Reggie who came into photos whenever he wanted.

Thanks Brian and Marnie. I could do this every weekend for your family. It makes the chaos at my house not seem so bad ; ). Can’t wait to do it again when the little one can join in the fun.
